OUR GOAL THIS YEAR was 300 FAMILIES! — Done.
With help from the Fairfield Rotary and 30 Rotaract members from Farifield University, the CT Basket Brigade returned again this year to a new location – and perhaps a permanent home.
Drop in visits from Bridgeport dignitaries and a surprise visit from Senator Blumenthal may have cemented a solution to our biggest logistical headache — where to put 100 cars, 250 volunteers, 9,000 lbs of food – and still have room for one DJ.
The goal of the CT Basket Brigade, is to provide a Thanksgiving dinner, complete with all of the fixings – and other related items, to families in need. Assembly of our family ‘baskets’ is done by volunteers at a central location in the morning, and then delivered directly to the homes of each family – that very same day. This grass-roots effort is accomplished through private donations and the hard work of hundreds of individuals who come together for our one-day event, each year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. (This year’s date – Sat. Nov. 19).
In 2015, we delivered dinners to another 600 families! See our team photo on following pages. To date we have serviced thousands of families in the New Haven and Greater Bridgeport areas – Over the years we have hand-delivered over 100 tons of food and fed 20,000 people.
Please sign-up online. Any and all donations are very much appreciated!
