Every year for the past ten years, our Rotary Club has assembled a team to instill the love of reading among the young students of Bridgeport elementary schools. This year Read Aloud Day will take place on Thursday October 19th from 9AM to 10AM. If enough Rotarians sign-up early we can usually guarantee that we will all be together at the Columbus School which our Club has “adopted” for multi-faceted support over many years.
To participate all you need to do is reply to John Beckman via email (firstname.lastname@example.org), or send a text or call at 203-913-1352.
Your commitment is simply to arrive at 9AM on October 19th at the designated school, enjoy breakfast snacks while perusing the book you will be reading to your assigned class (K through 5) from 9:30 to 10AM. From this simple act, you will receive much positive feedback from the kids in the class, who will listen attentively while you read, and then if time permits engage in a dialog with you about the book, or any other relevant topic you’d like to discuss. The teacher, too, will appreciate the stimulation and variety that you bring to the class.
Those of you have participated in the past will have received, or will soon receive a letter from the School Volunteers Association with a sign-up sheet asking for your continued participation. If you sign-up as part of our Rotary team, then do NOT reply to the SVA as this may cause you to be counted twice or assigned to a different school. The important thing, though, is to make sure to let me know as soon as possible that you will be participating. I need to send our list to SVA within two weeks.
