Kalaki Unity School Playground Project - Fairfield Rotary financed the playground, located at the Kalaki Unity Nursery & Primary School, Kalaki, Soroti-Kaberamaido Uganda
Through Rotary's emphasis to help both internationally as well as within our local communities, Fairfield Rotary financed the building of a new playground at the school in Uganda. The students will have full access to the newly installed playground. The power of play and the measurable outcomes it produces in the emotional, social, physical and academic well-being of a child are well documented. When a child plays, they are using their imagination to create their own world. When a child plays, test scores improve. These are just a few of the many important ways in which playground play is vital to the long-term development of a happy, healthy and well-adjusted child. Play opens doors, drops barriers, expands minds, and heals wounds. These benefits are often what is needed most in places where the brokenness of this world hits kids the hardest through child labor and exploitation, neighborhood violence and war, or the limited resources available to children living in deep poverty. By strategically integrating play into areas of need, seeds of hope take deeper root and the opportunity for genuine harvest is realized. The school will continue to be a beacon of light and learning and, ultimately, success in this remote community by attracting others to come and participate, study and play together.
